    English Conversation Classes

    Do you want more time to practice your English conversation skills?  We will begin Conversation Classes soon!  The class will meet once a week for 10 weeks.  All adults (18 and over) are invited to sign up for this free class, and everyone is welcome to join at any time.  Call (813) 273-3650 to reserve a spot today!

    Free English Tutors at Your Library

    Te gustaría hablar ingles?  Podemos ayudarte.  En cada biblioteca tenemos tutores para enseñarte una o dos veces por semana.  Enseñan vocabulario y lecciones de gramática para mejorar tu conversación.  Para registrarte, llama al (813) 273-3650, de lunes a viernes, 8 AM – 4 PM.  Actualmente, tenemos una lista de espera para un tutor.  Debes ser paciente; puede tomar un mes o hasta un año.

    If you or someone you know wants to learn to speak conversational English we can help.  Our tutors will work with you one-on-one or in a small group at the local library.  Students must be 18 years of age or older.  To register as a student with the Hillsborough Literacy Council, just call:  (813) 273-3650. Our office hours are Monday – Friday, 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM.


    While You Wait

    While you wait for a tutor or a conversation class, take advantage of these two FREE online programs.

    Mango Languages – Visit the Hillsborough Public Library Database at http://www.hcplc.org/hcplc/dw/.  Then, find MANGO Languages under the Databases A to Z link.  Select the language you want to study:  Ingles para hispanoparlantes, Ingles para falantes do portugues brasileiro, or Angielski dla polskich rozmówców.

    USA Learns – This website has stories, videos, and pictures to help you learn English.  Choose your level – Beginner, Low Intermediate, or Intermediate - and then get started with lessons.  Click here to start learning English.

    Adult and Community Education
    In 15 locations throughout the county, these public schools offer free classes to learn English (ESOL) and to earn a GED.  Students must be 16 years or older.  There are daytime and evening classes.  Call (813) 740-7750 or visit their website at http://ace.mysdhc.org.

    Local Churches

    Many churches in this area offer free English classes.  Ask if your church offers one.

    Hillsborough Community College – English for Academic Purposes (EAP)

    If you want to improve your English to a professional and academic level, register for classes with HCC at the Dale Mabry or Ybor Campus.  EAP Courses are offered from levels 1 – 6 in Reading, Writing, Speaking/Listening, and Grammar.  Classes are not free, but you may qualify for financial assistance.

    University of South Florida – Continuing Education
